My Last beach day…

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

I was planning on sacrificing my body to the sun god and laying on the beach for several hours today. So far it doesn’t look like that is going to happen. There are grey clouds for as far as the eye can see in every direction. It is easy to take it for granted that the sun will always be out when you are on the beach for two weeks. If its cloudy in the morning you just wait till the afternoon, if its cloudy then you wait till tomorrow. The problem is I am leaving tomorrow…

I have had a fantastic time here at El Diablo Tranquilo in Punta del Diablo, Urugauy. I came here for two days and stayed two weeks. The only thing that would make this better is if there was diving here. Preparing to leave is not much fun, in the time I have been here I have made some really good friends, Joesefine (german) and Irene (Dutch), as well as countless others that have come and gone in this short time. Also the staff here is great they seem to really try and help you with what you need. And after the Thanksgiving meal it really does feel a bit like home!

I have another place to add to my list of places I will truly miss!!! I will unfailingly recommend anyone to come here and I hope that you have as good a time as I do. Side note, you might not want to come here anytime other than between November and March, any other time of the year it is completely dead.
Tomorrow I am making my way back to Buenos Aires, Charissa gets here in two days!!!

Happy Turkey Day

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

Knowing that I am about 6000 miles south of home, I didn’t expect much for Thanksgiving today.

Once I knew that I was going to be here for Thanksgiving I went and talked to the manager Erin, she is from Chicago. I knew I would find a sympathetic ear there. She said she would talk to a few people about finding a turkey and what not. Yesterday she went to the nearest city about 40km away(chuy) and bought supplies. When she got back she told me not to worry that dinner is covered.

They told us that everyone should plan on bringing something to make it kinda potluck. The Swedish girls made meatballs and this guy chris from Georgia made cornbread stuffing, we made a salad, and there were lots of other dishes as well.

Everyone started showing up about 430 and things just started looking better and better. Ended up having about 20 people turn out, only about 7 or 8 of us were actually American but it was so much fun. Before dinner we all got together in a big circle and said grace/ what we were thankful for.

The turkey was carved and we all began dishing up. The food wasn’t all exactly right but it was so much better than I ever expected. Desert was fantastic as well. It really made me feel like home and I will recommend this hostel to anyone.

Oh and the best part was we were eating on the terrace and were at the ocean. It was 70 degrees and sunny and I had my Turkey out on the beach. It was a tradition I could get used to!!!

Life’s a beach…

Friday, November 19th, 2010

The last three or four days since the rain stopped have been fantastic. The sun has ben hot the ocean cold and the bugs on the beach have been tolerable. We have been spending a few hours everyday on the beach and it is something I could get used to. I have been on the fence about how long to stay here versus going back to Buenos aires, and I have decided that the beach might hold my attention longer than the big city.

The beaches both directions from the hostel are very nice, we took a long walk to the lighthouse the other day took a bit over an hour to get there, then we went to the beach the other direction, which is just amazing, long sweeping beach and for the four hours we were there it was mostly empty. I was impressed. Played Frisbee with a Canadian guy, it was lot of fun. I have even managed to not get sunburnt.
Loving life at the moment and just wanted to share it with all of you… hope things are as good for you wherever you are.
