Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Week three already and I had a long paragraph about everything we had been doing and the power went out before i could post it so its gone.  I dont really want to retype it all so here is this message.  I am still having a good time, the weather isnt really cooperating agian, and we havent really done much this week, we are going to tulum this weekend to dive the cenotes.  that should be fun, more later.

Week 2

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Well its been two weeks, i had a bit of a sunburn and have been in the water just about everyday.  The weather has been cooperating and we have doing several dives.  On the dives we are doing spot checks on the coral we are going to monitor.  A few of us have have learned the algaes and diseases as well and have been spotting those as well.  Maybe next week we will learn monitoring process and actually start.  The food is still vegan, but it really isnt that bad.  Its hard to imagine that I have been living a few weeks without refrigeration.  We began playing the assasian game, where everyone gets a name and a a method of killing another person.  I didnt even get a chance, I was killed with a signal marker bouy while I was working the radio. It should be fun to see how it pans out.

Week One

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Week one has been pretty good, many things to get used to and adjust for.  We only have power about 3 hours a night and there really isnt any fresh water, we get a cold shower every three days.  We typically dive twice a day but the weather has not been cooperating, and we have been quite wet.  Been playing alot of cards and learning the latin names and how to identify the 50 corals we have to know.  I took the coral test and I failed the first two times.  Both times i missed it by one point.  We have come into town, which is an hour away and a 900 peso cab ride.  We ate cheese burgers and fries.  It was so great to have meat agian!!!  Our diet is vegan during the week, mostly because we do not have any refrigeration.  The veiw from the huts every morning is unbelievable.  We sleep about 100m from the ocean, and it is amazing.  Some people in our hut snore and it is causing some problems but I am sure we will make it. The people I have meet so far have been really interesting.  I feel so untraveled after talking to some of the people, they have all been so many places and done so many things.  There are only three Americans so its kind of different being out numbered, but it is fun.  I bet ill pick up lots of strange words while im here.
